During our March Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program visit, Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis, president of Florida Memorial University, visited our students and mentors. She spoke about her journey from a small-town West Virginian girl with big dreams to her current role as a university president, and the impact of mentorship.
Selfies. Tweets. Snaps. Memes. For our February 2017 visit, students and mentors got a crash course on the dos and don’ts of social media from Youth Life Coach and Guidance Counselor Rockell Bartoli. Mentors were also honored for their hard work in honor of National Mentoring Month.
To ring in the New Year, Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students went onboard Royal Princess, a ship in Carnival’s sister-brand Princess fleet. The students got to see first-hand what it’s really like on a cruise ship! For many, this was the first time they had ever visited the ship, and everyone enjoyed learning about the operation. They also enjoyed lunch and a tour before returning to Carnival.
Students from the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program and their mentors were treated to a fun lesson about behavioral styles by Carnival Cruise Line’s very own Chief People Officer Ron Phillips.
During the fall visit, the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students were joined by Breakthrough Miami, who taught the students how to apply efficient and effective study skills, as well as how to prepare for the ACT and SAT.
A new school year has kicked off, and that mean a new group of freshman students are joining our Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program. On this first school-to-work visit, all of the students met with their mentors and learned what was planned for the year ahead!
For the final visit of the 2015-16 school year, Miami artist Romero Britto visited the students and shared is passion for art and the road to achieving success. During the bittersweet visit, we also said goodbye to the seniors and recognized several students for their outstanding work and participation in the program. Have a great summer!
He invests millions in hopeful entrepreneurs each week on ABC’s hit show “Shark Tank,” but recently Daymond John spoke to the students about his rise to becoming founder, president and chief executive officer of FUBU — “For Us, By Us” — a multi-million-dollar sportswear clothing brand. A true rags to riches story, John told this kids that passion for what you do should be the driving force, not money.
Another outstanding group of 15 Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students earned a four-year college scholarship purchased from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation by Carnival Foundation. The scholarships and laptops for the 2016 recipients were presented at half-time during a Miami HEAT basketball game. Miami HEAT President of Business Operations Eric Woolworth, Vice President of Player Programs Alonzo Mourning, Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools Alberto Carvalho, Senator Ron Silver and founder of the Florida Prepaid College Program Stanley G. Tate were on hand to congratulate the students.
Bloomingdale’s Miami, along with Clinique make-up, came to Carnival during a school-to-work visit to give the junior girls make-up tips, advice on dressing appropriately and being professional on social media. These important lessons will help the girls achieve success on all levels
