Actress Gabrielle Union Wade visited the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program during their school-to-work visit and spoke to the students about her path to achieving her goals. Union spoke about the challenges she faced growing up, adversity and how she was going to school to become an attorney when she got a modeling job that launched her acting career. Everyone found her to be generous and giving.

Students Practice Interviewing

Scholarship & Mentoring Program

During the January Scholarship and Mentoring Program school-to-work visit, students had the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills during mock interviews with local companies. Representatives from the businesses came to the Carnival headquarters and sat down for one-on-one interviews with the students, who received critiques so they could learn how to give a great interview.

Once again, Carnival Cruise Lines F.U.N. Teams members went to Bay Oaks Home for the Aged to spend time with the residents. The team members hosted a competitive game of bingo and provided companionship during snack-time.

Salvation Army Angel Tree

Special Events

As part of Carnival Cruise Line’s annual support of the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, the company’s shoreside employees donated 500 toys and bikes that will be given to underprivileged children throughout South Florida.

The Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students had a nice surprise at their January meeting at Carnival’s headquarter offices. Actress Gabrielle Union was a guest and spoke to the kids about her path to stardom. Both the students and the mentors enjoyed hearing her inspiring words.

Walk for the Animals

Walks

Carnival F.U.N. Team members participated in the Greater Miami Humane Society’s annual Walk for the Animals event at Bayfront Park. Approximately 3,000 animal lovers joined in for the one-mile stroll around the park and then enjoyed a morning full of music, food, activities, games and fun.

On Saturday, November 22, supporters in more than 65 communities across the country — including several Carnival F.U.N. Team members — participated in the St. Jude Give Thanks. Walk. This family-friendly event helps raise funds to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

FIU Carnival Gold Scholars Award Ceremony

Partners

Carnival Foundation recently established the Carnival Gold Scholars program at FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management. A ceremony was held to honor the first five recipients who were awarded renewable, full-tuition scholarships, including room and board, of up to $20,000 each. The five Carnival Gold Scholars are Marvah Benjamin, Kristen Linton, Erick Magloire, Andrea Martinez-Bustamante and Kandys Temes.
