Carnival Corporation President and CEO Arnold Donald spoke to the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students about his career and achieving success. Prior to his arrival, the students and mentors answered questions about themselves during a fun game and “first impression” awards were given out to students who stood out as they arrived at Carnival.
Miami HEAT player Shane Battier welcomed the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students back for the 2013-14 school year. Returning students met up with their Carnival “big” while the freshman “littles” met the Carnival mentors for the first time.
Every year Carnival Foundation awards 15 students in the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program with a college scholarship purchased from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation. For the 2013 recipients, Carnival Corporation Chairman Micky Arison and Miami HEAT retired star Alonzo Mourning were on hand to congratulate the students.
Ships throughout the Carnival Cruise Lines fleet participate in various events onboard to honor World Oceans Day every year in June.
The Edve4Vets partnership got underway with the first meeting of the veterans and their Carnival mentors. Edge4Vets helps veterans translate their strengths from the military into tools for civilian success by partnering with business mentors who participate with them in the translation process. Carnival is pairing employees who are veterans with the Edge4Vets participants when possible.
The “Honey Bugs” who are a part of the Honey Shine program participated in a beach clean-up in Miami to celebrate Earth Day 2013.
