FUN Team volunteers visited Ronald McDonald Miami during National Volunteer Month. There the team helped cook and serve a meal for families whose children are hospitalized and in need of housing assistance.
On April 25th, we hosted a Career Showcase with executives in the top fields our students are interested in pursuing. Students were able to ask our panelist questions about their studies, journey to the position they are currently in, and advice.

On March 21, 2019, Bigs and Littles had their monthly School-To-Work visit. We celebrated Women’s History Month with the first Hispanic woman to anchor a national newscast in the United States, Teresa Rodriguez from Univision. Seniors learned more about Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami and UNCF scholarship opportunities.
This month, students received a special visit from Carnival Cruise Line’s partner and Food Network host Chef Guy Fieri. He spoke to students and mentors about being positive, respectful and reaching goals. He ended the visit with meeting every student and mentor.
During our January School-to-Work visit, we recognized our mentors in honor of National Mentoring Month. Carnival’s Chief Audit Officer Richard Brilliant spoke to students and mentors about personal finances and saving.
As 2018 came to a close, students and mentors had a last School-To-Work visit on December 13, 2018. All classes were able to participate in a presentation by Academic Counselor Rockell Bartoli on how to surpass obstacles, both personal and academic, and succeed.
This week mentors and students had a chance to meet before the Thanksgiving holiday. Freshmen students participated in academic counseling sessions with Breakthrough Miami. Seniors had a chance to review their application with their mentor before the November 30 deadline.
Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program hosted its very busy second visit in October. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors participated in academic enrichment sessions provided by Breakthrough Miami. Seniors met with David Medina, director of scholarship programs for Miami Dade College, to learn more about financial aid funding for college. Program alumna Diana Montalvan, who is currently in her final year at Florida International University, spoke to current students about her experience in the program and college.
The Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program welcomed new students and welcomed back returning ones at the first visit of the 2018-19 school year. Everyone was excited to be back at Carnival, some meeting their mentors and others being reunited after the summer.
It was the final visit of the 2017-2018 school year, so we said goodbye to the seniors and recognized several students for their outstanding work and participation in the program. Have a great summer!
